Good Place to Retire?

My husband is close to retirement. We lived in Scottsdale,AZ for 7 years in 80's and 90's, not sure if I'd want to retire there now though. What does Oro Valley (or other places in Az) have to offer? I'd cooler climates, but husband likes the desert. Thanks for input.
